He goes to grab his stuff in his locker. He was going to quite. He was upset with himself.

He says that it up to him to be a contender. If alfred feally wants to be a contender he had to get hurt in his first fight.

Alfred went to the gym because he wanted to tell Mr Donatelli that he quites, because he had a rough weekend so he thinks he needs to give up.He hurt his ankel and is worn out so hes letting his "friends" get to his head and thats why hes giving up. Alfred also wanted to give his boxxing outfit back.

Mr Donatelli tells Alfred he will know when he becomes a contender. He told Alfred when you have your first fight and get really hurt you will know and that will make you a contender. I think Mr. Donatelli really got into Alfreds head and is making Alfred really think about this.

Alfred went to the gym because he was thinking about quitting. The reason he felt like quitting is because a lot of things where getting him down. He felt bad about how he couldn't help his best friend James and also how Major always was putting him down.

He tells Alfred he does not know. He tells him that because he is the one who has to work to be a contender he does not know if he would have been one if he continued. Mr. Donatelli said he would know when you get really hurt in a fight. Alfred then asks "will you tell me then?" Mr. Donatelli told him he won't have to you will know. If Alfred where to get back up and continue to be a Contender then that's how he would know I think.

Alfred goes to the gym at the end of the chapter and told Mr. Donatelli that he was going to quit. Alfreds friends are trying to make him not be a contender.
Mr. Donatelli told Alfred that if he decides to continue with boxing he would tell him if he was a contender or not.

Because he wants to start working out and turn his life back around. He wants nea new fresh start Nr.Donatelli said he wasnt shore if he could because of the problems he had and all the issues hes been going through. So Alfread is going to go to the gym to grab his stuff and quit because he was dissapointed with himself. He saw himself as a failure so he didnt want to work for mister donstelli cause hes been failing so much in the last couple of weeks.

Alfred went to the gym at the end of the chapter to pack his boxing gear and leave the gym. He was about to quit being a boxer, feeling that he was not worthy of being a contender. He felt sorry for himself as all these problems were building up on him. He felt it was his fault that he couldn't help his friend James. He felt he was only wasting his time at the gym, praticing and running for a meaningless cause. He began to fall prey to the words of his peers, extinguishing the confidence that once burned within
Alfred's heart in the beginning.

Alfred told Donatelli he was leaving, and Donatelli just said "Goodbye, and good luck."
When Alfred asks if he would ever be a a contender, Donatelli simply said that He will know when he is a contender when he gets hurt badly for the first time in the ring. Alfred then asks if Donatelli would tell him when he would be a contender. Donatelli replied, "I won't have to, Alfred. You'll know too."

Alfred went to the gym at the end of the chapter because he was thinking of quiting. He was thinking of quiting because Major, Hollis, and Sonny said to take a break from boxing. Also Alfred felt that he could have helped James by saying something at the party. Also Alfred thought why run because I am not going to be a contender anyaway.

After Alfred said good bye to Mr. Donatelli, he asked if he would be a contender. Mr. Donatelli said don't ask me then who? asked Alfred, yourself. Anyone can be taught how to fight. A contender, that you have to do yourself. Then Alfred asked when he would know when he would be a contender. Mr. Donatelli said when you got hurt in the ring for the first, really hurt then I would know. Then Alfred asked when you know will you tell me. Then he said I would not have to. Alfred asked why and Donateeli said I don't have to Alfred, you will know too.

Alfred Brooks goes back to the Gym to quit. When Alfred goes inside the gym he sees Mr. Donatelli sitting on a saggy chair. He walks to his locker and putting his boxing stuff in a brown paper bag. He thought in his head that he can see if Bud Martin would buy the boxing stuff back and use it for a other kid. While he was getting his stuff out he just wanted to look at him before he just walks out. Then he slams his locker. He then tried to say good-bye to Mr. Donatelli in all sorts of ways and Mr. Donatelli just ignored him. Then Alfred said he was sorry. Mr. Donatelli said "you've got nothing to apologize to me for." Then Alfred asked "if he kept going would he ever become a contender." Mr. Donatelli said "dont ask me." ALfred says "then who." Mr. Donatelli said "yourself." Mr. Donatelli Said anybody can fight, A contender, that you have to do yourself.
